About

Allison Walker Gaughan is a printmaking artist.

She looks to stories, myths, and sacred texts to focus on the questions that unite humanity (the answers often separate us).

Raised in an orthodox home, Walker’s formative imaginations burned bright with high-stakes mortal drama and the language of prophecy. This is heavily reflected in her work. The intent is not religious but a reclamation of these stories toward a universal mythology.

The many places Walker has worked and lived directly inform her art. From the museum world, to a lighthouse keeper on Martha’s Vineyard, to a creative firm in New York City. She was raised in the California Bay Area and returns often.

Walker studied Art at Southern Virginia University, a tiny liberal arts college in the Blue Ridge Mountains. She received a Master’s in Theology, Imagination, and the Arts from the University of St Andrews in Scotland. This was a humanities degree and entailed a printmaking exhibition alongside her final dissertation.

Walker currently resides in the New York Hudson Valley with her husband, John - the love of her life - and a 700 pound printing press.
