"Jacob Wrestles the Messenger"

$2,750.00

Monotype print, oil pastel, & graphite

19 x 26 inches (24 x 36 framed)

This piece depicts a very ambiguous scene in Genesis. Scholars debate whether the text is saying Jacob wrestled an angel, or God themself. They fought, the deity dislocates Jacob’s hip, and Jacob is told he now has a new name: Israel (the beginning of a civilization). It would seem wrestling with God yielded the spiritual leadership of a nation, not a sinner.
