Thin Place
8 x 8 inches
Monotype print & oil pastel on BFK Rives paper
Scots Gaelic tradition has a name for sacred, otherworldly places in nature that seem close to a different spiritual realm: “thin places”. It means the veil is thin, and they are places where you are walking between two worlds. Between its pagan history, Christian history, and stunning beauty, the Scottish island of Iona is famously considered a thin place.
This piece illustrates a mountain reaching from the grounded realm (dark blue) into the double realm (light blue). The light blue ink shows the glitch / aberration of the thin place.
